Legal Analysis
Amongst the UN recommended high priority statistical topics for stillbirths, the following information is not recorded through the civil registration system: date of birth of mother or mother's age, children born alive to mother, fetal deaths to mother during lifetime, date of last live birth, place of usual residence, or weeks of gestation.
Some information about the child’s father is recorded, if the parents are married, or otherwise at the joint request of the mother and the person acknowledging himself in writing in the presence of the Registrar to be the father of the child). However, this information does not include the father’s date of birth or usual residence.
Additional health data for pregnant women is collected through the Zambia Electronic Perinatal Record System (ZEPRS), which records demographic characteristics, past medical and obstetric history, prenatal care, and delivery and newborn care for pregnant women.
